You’ve probably heard that your wedding day will fly by in a blink of an eye. It will be packed with precious moments and you won’t want to miss a single second. While all of our preferred Asheville wedding photographers are super experienced, know all the must-have shots and how to capture your wedding day in a unique way, you might want to take it one step further. Giving your photographer a shot list can help them better understand your vision and what you’re most interested in when receiving your wedding photos.

It’s important to note that you’re hiring a professional Asheville wedding photographer for a reason. You love their style and they know their stuff—you should trust them to make your photos shine! By providing just a simple list with a few unique notes or examples of photos you like/do not like will help you both be on the same page and ready for the big day!

This is by no means an all-inclusive list, it’s simply our take on what shots to consider that you might not have thought of before! This list could also be helpful to provide information to your Asheville wedding videographer. Without further ado, let’s get into our must have unique wedding photo checklist:

Getting Ready/Pre-Ceremony

  • Generational shots: bride, mom, sisters and grandmother AND groom, father, brothers and grandfather

  • Wedding invitations and stationary at venue

The Wedding

  • Photos with your officiant

  • Un-traditional or unique ceremony/reception happenings

  • Holding a “thank you” sign to send out to guests after the wedding. We love how this couple incorporates a thank you sing in such a meaningful way!

Group Photos

The family photo shot list is probably the most important of all to provide your Asheville wedding photographer. You don’t want to miss including grandma or an aunt/uncle during the hustle and bustle of your group photo session. Here’s a few examples to get you thinking so you don’t miss including anyone special on your big day. Take note of the names of everyone you wish to include so you can stay organized and on your timeline.

  • Wedding party

  • Immediate family

  • Brothers and sisters

  • Grandparents

  • Godparents

  • Aunts, uncles and cousins

  • Your dog: Since Asheville NC is one of the most dog-friendly cities in the US, having Fido in your wedding photos is a must.

Special Locations

Other than getting photos taken at your ceremony and reception venue, you might have a few special spots in mind that you wish to include if they are nearby.

  • First date location

  • Meaningful locations

  • Lookout points or visually appealing backdrops
